Undergraduates can earn course credit for approved job/internship/professional experiences (BSC492), research (BSC493), and teaching (BSC494). Genetics students should talk with their advisors about getting research experience – the requirements are different for GN undergraduates.
Some curricula require a student to get Experiential Learning Credit; for others it can be an elective. Students have been directed to talk with their advisors about their particular requirements.
VERY IMPORTANT DEADLINES!
- Students must get the experience approved using the departmental forms BEFORE they can start counting hours toward their credits. If you have a student hoping to get credit for work they are completing in the Fall, please ask them to complete their forms before Census Date if possible. If they start later, they can do a late add with a Schedule Revision. The College will cut off approvals of adding the credit for the Fall sometime in early October. But, if a student has an opportunity that starts later that they want credit for, they should fill out contract for approval as soon as they secure that position. We can deal with what term to enroll them in on a case-by-case basis.
- Students must work 135 hours after approval in order to receive 3 credits (1 credit possible per 45 hours).
- Once enrolled/approved, students must successfully complete reflective questions on Moodle to receive credit.
- A satisfactory evaluation from your supervisor is also required to receive credit.
